Last night, President Trump gave his first address to Congress since starting his second term in January. He boasted about a few items he had taken America out of. Those are:

The Green New Deal

The President boasted about cutting America out of the “Green New Scam”. He is referring to the “Green New Deal”, which was a plan to help move America away from carbon dependence and to do our part, as a country, in combating climate change.

The Paris Climate Accord

He then spoke about exiting the Paris Climate Accord, stating it was “costing us trillions of dollars that other countries were not paying”. Reuters looked into the financials of the Paris Accord. They reported that ODI, a think tank, estimated how much rich countries should be helping per year. They based the estimate on how much income the government brought in, their CO2 emissions since 1990, and population size. Their analysis showed that seven rich nations paid their fair share, with the US not on that list. “Those 2020 contributions included $8.66 billion from France and $16.09 billion from Japan. By comparison, the U.S. provided $2.3 billion in 2020. The country has committed $11.4 billion for 2025, but ODI said this was still only a quarter of the U.S.'s "fair share". (Abnett, 2023)

The World Health Organization

Next on Trump’s list was “the corrupt World Health Organization.” The World Health Organization, or “WHO,” is a United Nations agency that helps the world stay healthy. The WHO helps spread awareness of ongoing illness or disease and determine the root causes of adverse health trends. The WHO was highly active during the COVID-19 pandemic, issuing reports on how many people were affected and strategies on how to combat it.

The last organization he boasted about leaving was the “Anti-American UN Human Rights Council.” The UN Human Rights Council is a body within the United Nations that strives for human rights worldwide. More on them can be found here.
